1 dead in Modoc County plane crash | News [Video]

The sheriff’s office received a call at about 2:45 p.m. about a plane crash between Alturas and Likely near County Road 60.

MODOC COUNTY, Calif.9:11 A.M. UPDATE – The Modoc County Sheriff’s Office said the person who died in the crash has been identified as Peter J. Spyres, 69, of Arbuckle.

The sheriff’s office said the plane was a single prop agriculture plane used for dusting or spraying large acreages with pesticides and hydroseeding. The aircraft was reported to not be carrying any pesticides.

The aircraft was owned by Jones Flying Service out of Biggs.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, and the FAA and National Transportation Safety Board will be at the scene of the crash on Wednesday to investigate.
