Cloudy skies over Nashville make solar eclipse even more elusive [Video]

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A few hundred people gathered at Centennial Park on Monday, in hopes of seeing the solar eclipse.

Cloudy skies made that difficult.

However, the partial eclipse poked through the clouds for a few seconds at a time, giving the people who gathered a chance to see it. It began around 12:45 p.m. and peaked at around 90 percent totality just after 2:00 p.m.

“I knew there was going to be a good chance that we weren’t going to see anything,” Edel Dawood said. “But I wouldn’t be disappointed, we actually got like 50 seconds so far.”

The Great American Eclipse happened to fall on Karima Kibble’s 50th birthday. She also went to Centennial Park in 2017 to view the last total solar eclipse.
