Police in Roeland Park are investigating vandalism at the Seeds That Feed the Need community garden after someone uprooted the plants and damaged the scarecrow. The vandalism here has set them back six months. The food that was taken out of these beds has actually been growing through the winter, meaning local food pantries will have less to give to families in need.Richelle Basgall volunteers at the garden. “It’s all volunteers,” she said. “We work here, and we come when we can.”Police are reviewing surveillance video to determine when the property damage occurred. Someone pulled out their broccoli and garlic. “This is all for harvesters and for the food banks,” Basgall said. “So you’re really stealing from poor people if you do that.”They also took the scarecrow off its mount and tossed it over the fence.
