LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) — Arbor Day isn’t for a couple weeks but this weekend was all about trees and what makes them grow.

It was the third annual Treefest at Petersburg Park on East Indian Trail. Volunteers planted 100 trees throughout the park as Louisville has been part of tree city USA for 24 years.

Central and south Louisville has much fewer trees and a smaller tree canopy than east Louisville.

There were nature-lead hikes, butterfly studies, a rock wall, live music and educational booths all rooted in nature.

“We had food vendors, beverage vendors, we had informational booths from lots of nonprofits around town, we had tree trivia, all sorts of fun events,” Trees Louisville Executive Director Cindi Sullivan said.

Attendees also got to take home a free tree from Trees Louisville.
