JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. (WCSC) – Island-dwellers in the Lowcountry can expect optimized emergency response times thanks to the establishment of a dedicated rescue company on Johns Island.

St. John’s Fire District announced Saturday the establishment of Rescue Company 701, which is set to serve Johns, Kiawah, Seabrook, and Wadmalaw Islands and improve the Fire District’s abilities to handle emergencies in these areas.

This is not the first time the area has had a rescue company, but it has been without one for more than a decade.

The District says they hope this addition will “ensure a safer environment for both responders and residents alike.”

Deputy Fire Chief Kevin Henson shared a positive outlook for the future of the rescue company, saying “The implementation of this Rescue Resource will enhance the already robust capabilities of the St. John’s Fire District and our response partners. This new resource will improve the St. …
