One dead, two injured after Plaquemine Police pursuit ends in crash along LA-1 [Video]

PORT ALLEN – A police chase that started in Plaquemine ended in a fatal crash on a Port Allen highway Saturday night.

According to Chief Engolio, Plaquemine Police Department received a call at around 7:45 p.m. about an ongoing domestic violence situation, during which the victim gave the name of the suspect, their estranged boyfriend, and a description of his car.

At 7:51 p.m., officers saw the suspect’s vehicle on LA-1 in North Plaquemine. The suspect began to flee before police began their pursuit. After the suspect began to flee, officers turned on their lights and sirens in an attempt to stop the vehicle, which then left the area at a high rate of speed. According to Chief Engolio, “Due to the violent nature of the offense officers pursued. Traffic was light (on the) road, conditions were clear and dry through North Plaquemine and Addis.”
