Stephanie and Austyn Svehla knew the vibe they wanted. They are in the insurance business, but were looking for something new in which to invest — something with a pulse, so to speak.

They eventually found it a year or two ago while Austyn was getting his hair cut in Omaha. 

The American barber shop has long been a cultural center, a meeting place — mostly for men. It’s been made famous by movies, where the conversation — from sports to women to off-color jokes — flows freely, and friendships, some of them lifelong, are forged.

The same can be said for the corner bar and its role in shaping Americana. It’s considered a place to meet for a cold one — or maybe something stronger — to watch a ballgame and perhaps to seek some counsel from the barkeep.
