Doggie reps Rocco and Ruben help Dr. Jennifer Norman tell us what we should bring on a hike with our dogs.

“A good rule of thumb is your dog needs about an ounce of water per body pound, per day. That’s about their normal maintenance,” says Dr. Norman. “If you’re out hiking, it’s warm, it’s hot, you’re doing more activity — they are going to need more than that.”

Besides a water supply for your pet, you should pack a basic First-Aid kit — including a wrap that sticks to itself for injuries. Plus, make sure that your dog has the latest tick and flea prevention meds because the foothills around the Treasure Valley have a lot of those pests.

Rocco and Ruben suggest you bring some tasty treats as well.
