Australia to slash tariffs on Ukrainian goods [Video]

The Australian Government will extend tariff relief on Ukrainian goods as part of its response to Russia’s invasion of the Eastern European country.

Treasurer Jim Chalmers announced the move today after he held talks with his Ukrainian counterpart in Washington DC.

The duty exemption will be extended for two years until July 2026 for goods that are produced and manufactured in Ukraine.

It will mean tariffs of up to 5 per cent on Ukrainian goods are slashed to zero.

Chalmers told Ukraine’s Finance Minister Sergii Marchenko that the tariff relief was a demonstration of Australia’s continued support for Ukraine.

It is part of Australia’s package of defence, economic and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine.

Australia’s overall support to Ukraine is valued at about $960 million, including $780 million in military aid for Ukraine’s armed forces.
