WILMINGTON, N.C. (WECT) – Wilmington police responded to an attempted robbery and shooting in the 3600 block of Market Street near Coastal Suites Thursday a bit after 1:30 p.m.

Three people have been charged, according to a press release from Wilmington Police Department: Demere Ballard, 21, of Navassa; Zykwan Mcquillan, 23, of Wilmington; and an unidentified 16-year-old.

Police set up a perimeter, two guns were recovered and four people were taken into custody after the shooting The location was outside of the Reflections of Hope – Opioid Addiction Treatment Center.

WPD says there were two victims, and that one of them was injured and taken to the hospital.

Ballard was charged with assault with a deadly weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, and discharging a firearm in the city limits. Mcquillan was charged with common law robbery and the juvenile is being charged with possession of a firearm by a minor.
