One killed following school bus wreck in DeKalb Co. [Video]

DEKALB CO., Ala. (WAFF) – One person was killed in a crash involving a DeKalb County school bus on Alabama Highway 40 near Henagar.

Officials said a school bus and another car crashed into each other on Thursday morning.

No students were on the bus when the crash happened. Officials said the bus driver had minor injuries.

The driver of the other car was fatally injured.

WAFF 48 is still working to learn that driver’s identity. It’s also unclear what caused the crash.

Alabama Highway 40 is back open now but was shut down for several hours.

Dekalb County Superintendent Wayne Lyles released the following statement after the crash:

“We are deeply saddened to confirm that earlier today, a school bus from Henagar Jr.

High School was involved in a tragic accident with a single vehicle. The incident, which

occurred this morning, resulted in the loss of life of the driver of the other vehicle. Our

hearts go out to the family …
