Kenosha County surplus to fund Human Services Building [Video]

Kenosha County’s Human Services Building will receive a $2.2 million funding boost from a budget surplus that will be used to help offset its $32 million price tag.

It was among the final budgetary actions taken by the County Board at its annual meeting Tuesday night to complete its session in 2024. A new board was seated at the organizational meeting later that evening.

The board unanimously approved changes to the 2023 budget that included the transfer of $2.2 million for the Human Services Building project from a surplus that had been destined for general fund reserves. More than $1.92 million in federal American Rescue Plan Act funds – including re-purposing $925,161 unspent from a county broadband project to help pay partial costs to personnel and overtime costs in the sheriff’s department – was also approved.
