MID-MICHIGAN (WJRT) – The race for Michigan’s Eighth Congressional District seat is starting to take shape.

Tuesday was the deadline for potential candidates to file their paperwork with the state if they are considering a run for the seat.

According to the unofficial listing from the Michigan Secretary of State’s Office, eight candidates will appear on the ballot for the August primary.

On the Democratic side:

  • Current Flint Mayor Sheldon Neeley.
  • Former Flint Mayor Matt Collier.
  • State Sen. Kristen McDonald Rivet of Bay City.
  • Michigan State Board of Education President Pamela Pugh of Flint.

On the Republican side:

  • Businessman Paul Junge of Grand Blanc.
  • Grand Blanc resident Anthony J. Hudson.
  • Dow Chemical executive Mary Draves.
  • Michigan State Board of Education member Nikki Snyder.

All eight candidates are vying for a two-year term representing much of Mid-Michigan in Congress. Incumbent Dan Kildee announced last fall that he will not seek reelection this year and will return from Congress.
