Brookwood Elementary P.E. teacher named finalist for Alabama Teacher of the Year [Video]

ENTERPRISE, Ala. (WTVY) – “I have been a physical education teacher for twenty-four years,” said Alabama Teacher of the Year finalist Shelley Grimes.

Coach Grimes, the P.E. teacher at Brookwood Elementary School in Enterprise, has dedicated her career to helping students stay healthy and active. Now, her commitment is paying off.

“To be chosen as District 1 Teacher of the Year is kind of surreal,” said Grimes.

The kids are her favorite part of this job, as they make it worth the while.

“When our students walk into the gym, we get fifty hugs a day and it is so nice,” said Grimes. “If you’re having a rough day, they will turn it around.”

Teaching P.E. is special for Grimes, as she knows the lessons they learn will stick with them as they get older.
