Rural Vermonters and farmers sounded the alarm and expressed their frustrations with state lawmakers on Thursday in Montpelier, saying they’ve made the state unaffordable and that the State House is out of control.They cited House and Senate leadership from Burlington and Chittenden County as being out of touch with the rest of the state. “We are all working too hard for too little in a state that cost too much to live in,” said John Rodgers, a former Vermont state senator. “We do not support a Vermont that working class Vermonters cannot afford to live and where the Vermont culture is under attack,” he said. Others said their core values are getting left behind. “Logging, hunting, trapping, farming, sugaring — more and more we’re losing dignified skill-and land-based work.
