Saturday is International Firefighter Day, a day to express gratitude and appreciation to those in the front lines, and to remember the heroes who are no longer with us.
KTVU spoke with a San Francisco firefighter who was diagnosed with brain cancer two years after being on the front lines of some of California’s largest wildfires. As he fights his own battle with cancer, he is advocating for other firefighters who are exposed to toxic chemicals. San Francisco Fire Battalion Chief Matt Alba is a member of the San Francisco Firefighters Cancer Prevention Foundation. The organization has partnered with Broc Shots, a company that sells “Sulforaphane,” a supplement that has been found to help prevent and treat chronic disease, according to the National Institutes of Health. Matt Alba has been taking the supplements, and wants other firefighter to know about Broc Shot’s Firefighter Protection Program. Firefighters can sign up on their website to receive free Broc Shots. If you want to support firefighters, you can order a 30-day supply on their website, and a 30-day supply will be gifted to a firefighter who signs up.
