Motion to fire Tarrant police chief fails to move forward at city council meeting [Video]

TARRANT, Ala. (WBRC) – A resolution presented at the Tarrant City Council meeting Monday night to terminate the police chief did not move forward.

It failed after more than an hour of back and forth between many people in attendance at the meeting.

Tensions were high and voices were raised. There is a clear divide between leaders. At one point, several people including the mayor, the police chief, city councilors, and Tarrant citizens were trying to talk over each other.

It’s clear some people want to see Chief Wendell Major removed from office while others want him to remain in his position.

He was most recently placed on administrative leave in February. Mayor Wayman Newton said it was because the last time he was on administrative leave in November, the Chief was still engaging in official duties.
