A middle school teacher in the Omaha Public Schools is one of nine educators selected from across the U.S. to participate in the National STEM Scholar Program.

Sarah Nelson Wiese, a teacher at Bryan Middle School, was chosen to attend the professional development program, which provides advanced STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) training and project support for middle school science teachers nationwide.

The National STEM Scholar Program, which announced the selection on Tuesday, was created by a partnership between the National Stem Cell Foundation and the Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science at Western Kentucky University. It selects teachers each year from a national pool of applicants based on their description of a project the applicant would implement in the classroom if funds were available.
