Barren County cattle population ranked number one in the state [Video]

GLASGOW, Ky. (WBKO) – Barren County is the home of 80,000 cattle. It’s the most in any county in the entire state, with 9.3% of Kentucky’s total cattle coming out of the county, per the Kentucky Department of Agriculture.

Robert Siddens, owner of Siddens Farm Beef in Glasgow, has been on his farm for 60 years. He owns 95 cattle, including 40 mother cattle, three bulls, and the remaining calves among his hundreds of acres.

Once a calf is born, they are raised for 20 to 24 months where it then can be processed and sold. While being raised, they are fed and taken care of to ensure they produce healthier meats to process.

For a product to be sold, it must be taken to a USDA-approved processor. Siddens travels 80 miles to Tennessee to the processing plant where he finds the high-quality standards he wants for his products. Once …
