The Burlington County Commissioners have given preliminary approval for nine farms totaling 1,196 acres to enter the county’s Farmland Preservation Program. The farms, located in Chesterfield, North Hanover, Mansfield, Pemberton, Tabernacle and Southampton, will have their development rights purchased by the county and be deed restricted to remain in agriculture.

Burlington County Commissioner Director Felicia Hopson emphasized the importance of preserving the county’s remaining open space, stating that it helps keep agriculture strong and viable while guarding against overdevelopment. With over 63,000 acres already preserved, Burlington County ranks first in New Jersey and seventh nationally in farmland preservation.
