BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. – The Butte County District Attorney said his office is understaffed and needs to offer better pay to maintain justice and public safety.
District Attorney Mike Ramsey said he plans to pitch the idea of a new hiring bonus to the Butte County Supervisors on Tuesday. Ramsey said he wants the board to approve a $30,000 hiring bonus and a $15,000 retention bonus using state funding.
Ramsey said it would let his office be competitive again with other counties also looking for workers. Right now, his people are not making as much as other similar-sized counties.
Ramsey said the Deputy District Attorneys they have are overworked because they are so short-staffed.
