East Texas man convicted of carrying tomahawk inside Capitol on Jan. 6 gets 2 years in federal prison [Video]

According to court documents, the federal government was asking the court to sentence Alex Harkrider to three years in prison and three years of supervised release.

CARTHAGE, Texas — An East Texas man convicted in connection with the storming of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, was sentenced to two years in federal prison on Thursday. 

In January, Alex Harkrider, of Carthage, was found guilty on seven counts, including obstruction of an official proceeding and entering and remaining in a restricted building with a dangerous weapon. On Thursday, the judge handed down a 24-month sentence in federal prison.

He was originally set to be sentenced earlier this month, but it had been delayed due to a disagreement about the third acceptance of responsibility credit that is granted for saving the government the expense of the trial, according to our sister station WUSA.
