Father mourns 16-year-old student-athlete killed in shooting after prom [Video]

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM/Gray News) – A Georgia father heartbroken after his 16-year-old son was fatally shot during his prom weekend says the teenager’s bright future was taken away.

Manchester High School officials described 16-year-old Daryus Bryant as someone who “excelled both in athletics and academics.” His father told WTVM he was a well-liked kid who was very humble.

“My son, even though he was celebrating prom Saturday, his 17th birthday is this Saturday, so that really sucks that this happened,” said Daryus’ father, Cartarsman Bryant.

Early Sunday morning, a shooting occurred at the intersection of Lakeshore Drive and Crystal Drive in Columbus. When officers arrived, they found two victims in separate cars suffering from gunshot wounds after authorities say a third vehicle rode by, shooting into the other two cars.

Daryus Bryant died at a local hospital. The other victim, also a student at Manchester, was rushed into surgery. He was identified as Clarence Favors.
