(WFSB) – It is graduation season!
Years of hard work and dedication will all be worth it soon, particularly for a group of Ukrainian students attending Catholic school in eastern Connecticut.
There are plenty of signs that graduation is right around the corner at Saint Bernard Catholic School.
“I’m really excited!” said Uliana Pokutnia, St. Bernard senior.
Perhaps most tried over the last four years are these three students from Ukraine, now making a home in eastern Connecticut.
They are getting ready for graduation with their families thousands of miles away in the middle of a war zone.
“When the war broke out I think most of us felt very, very helpless, we saw the injustice of it,” said Don Macrino, Head of School at St. Bernard.
Macrino is rehearsing for graduation Thursday with the class of 2024 at the Cathedral of Saint Patrick.
Among the 54 graduating sit the three Ukrainians, who have relied on each other for the past few years.
