L.C. Bird boys hoops defeats Brunswick [Video]

After all, coming out on top is why we play the game, any game, in the first place. Right?

For sure, it is, but there was something about L.C. Bird‘s 63-53 victory over Brunswick Saturday at the Henrico Sports & Events Center that sent the Skyhawks home with an enhanced feeling of satisfaction and joy.

Perhaps it was the venue, a spacious, new, 3,500-capacity, state-of-the-art facility located near Virginia Center Commons not far from the Hanover County line.

Perhaps it was the ambiance, energy, festive music, and constant flow of activity throughout the afternoon and well into the evening that made the event more a gala than a series of five high school basketball games.

Perhaps it was the achievement of ending the 12-game winning streak of the latest incarnation of a storied program that’s won six VHSL Class 2 state titles and, in its first year in Class 1, stands 19-4 and aspires to bring yet another …
