Lauderdale County tourism discussed at Council of Governments meeting [Video]

MERIDIAN, Miss. (WTOK) – The Council of Governments met to discuss several different topics on Monday, one of which was tourism.

The Lauderdale County Tourism Commission has been working to improve tourism efforts in the area.

Lauderdale County Tourism Director Laura Carmichael said that tourism is the fourth largest industry in the state so it’s important to keep supporting that industry.

“We’ve been really busy the last few weeks. We’ve been in Jackson advocating, of course, for tourism in our community and we have a lot going on that we’re really excited about. This week we have an upcoming Rotary conference that’s going to be held in Meridian. It’s statewide and they’re staying in our hotels to experience all the attractions, eat in our restaurants, go shopping, and just enjoy how beautiful Meridian is,” said Carmichael.
