WASHINGTON (TND) — Close to 100 million Americans are using the popular video app, TikTok, according to lawmakers on Capitol Hill.
They want that to drop to zero.
It’s just one of many ways intelligence agencies believe China is trying to get Americans’ personal information and influence what users see and learn.
The app is clearly causing angst on Capitol Hill, where a dozen senators from both parties unveiled a bill to give President Joe Biden the power to ban TikTok and other foreign produced technologies.
The old definition of national security which was planes, tanks and guns is morphing into who controls and wins the technology battle,” Sen. Mark Warner, D-Virginia, who is chairman of the senate intelligence committee, said.
That would include, he added, software from Russia, Iran, North Korea and other adversaries with access to users’ personal information.
