Man injured in ‘explosion’ in Mesa [Video]

A neighbor called the police and said they thought a bomb had gone off next door.

MESA, Ariz. — A resident in a Mesa neighborhood thought a bomb had gone off at a neighbor’s home Wednesday night but it turned out to be an explosion caused by oil on a stove, Mesa police said. 

Officers were called to a home near Greenfield Road and University Drive around 7:30 p.m. after a resident called and said their neighbor’s house exploded, officials said. Police also learned before they arrived that there was a man and a child in the home and the man was injured. 

Officers arrived and found a man with severe burns on his torso, a statement from Mesa police said. The child was not injured, police said. 

The man was taken to the Maricopa County Hospital burn unit and his condition is currently unknown. Police said an early investigation …
