NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Nashville Police Chief John Drake will be honored Wednesday by the Middle Tennessee Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame.

Drake will be given the “Fred Russell Distinguished American Award.” He will receive this honor at its banquet held at the Cool Springs Marriott. Each year, the foundation recognizes about 75 high school and college football players from the Mid State for their academic and athletic accomplishments.

The foundation also honors several adults for community service and contributions to football.

“Drake was selected to receive our chapter’s highest honor this year in recognition of a career of service and leadership,” Wally Conyers, the foundation’s board president.
