Missing and Murdered Indigenous Peoples Day events coming up in May [Video]

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) – The National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous People is coming up on May 5. The day seeks to highlight those who haven’t made it home and to comfort those who are desperately seeking answers.

What would it be like to make a missing-person poster for someone you love? Too many Native American families in South Dakota face that reality.

“This is a sensitive issue for us. Because people have to realize that our women are hunted. And that’s still in existence today,” said Melanie Stoneman, the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate Domestic Violence Program Manager.
