According to a national report, drivers illegally pass school buses more than 242,000 times a day nationally.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Flagler County School District is one of five Florida districts implementing new technology on their school buses that will catch drivers who fail to stop when students are loading or unloading.
“Something very special is happening when the bus is stopped and the lights are flashing,” said Randy Wheeler, the transportation director for the Osceola County School District.
“There have been, unfortunately nationwide, been many student fatalities as a result of people running stop signs. So, if you want to know what keeps school bus operators awake at night, that’s it,” Wheeler said.
The Osceola County School District is one of five Florida school districts that are now testing the Stop Arm Violation System developed by the company Safe Fleet.
