An EF-1 tornado with maximum wind gusts of 110 mph touched down and traveled over 4 miles in Calhoun County, the National Weather Service confirms.

CALHOUN COUNTY, Mich. — After numerous reports of a tornado during severe weather Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, the National Weather Service (NWS) is confirming an EF-1 tornado touched down in Calhoun County.

The NWS issued a tornado warning for portions of the county at 12:02 a.m. Wednesday morning. By 12:35 a.m., the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) had received two visual confirmations of the tornado.

NWS said that an initial investigation shows that the track of the tornado was about four to five miles in length.

CCSO said that they believe that the tornado moved northeast from 17 1/2 Mile Road towards 24 Mile Road in Marengo Township.

Wind gusts are estimated at peaking around 110mph, which would put the tornado strength at EF-1, bordering on EF-2.
