OKLAHOMA CITY — The Oklahoma State Board of Education voted unanimously to initiate a statewide audit of all public school athletic programs as it prepares to comment, and possibly sue, over a proposed federal rule change dealing with transgender athletes.
Last week, President Biden announced his administration was looking into applying Title IX regulations to transgender athletes to allow them to compete on the team they identify as and not necessarily the one that aligns with the biological sex they were born with.
“We understand there are two genders. There are boys and there are girls,” State Superintendent of Public Instruction Ryan Walters (R) said about the proposed change.
Walters said the proposed rule change by the Biden Administration is in direct conflict with laws passed by conservative states like Oklahoma.
Last year, Oklahoma passed the Save Women’s Sports Act which would bar biological males from competing on girls’ teams. …
