Outage cancels VCU classes, leaves thousands without power [Video]

Virginia Commonwealth University classes were canceled Monday morning after a widespread power failure left hundreds of buildings on and around the school’s Monroe Park campus without power.

The power outage, which was the result of a Dominion Energy substation failure, affected over 1,300 homes, businesses and other buildings, according to the company. Crews were working Monday morning to repair the substation, but did not share an estimated time for restoration.

VCU staff members were advised to work remotely Monday morning, and classes were canceled until 10 a.m.
