Rutgers board member must step down after indictment, faculty union says [Video]

Faculty union officials demanded William Tambussi step down from his position on the Rutgers University Board of Governors during its meeting Thursday, days after he was named in a sweeping criminal indictment involving corruption charges earlier this week.

State Attorney General Matthew J. Platkin announced charges Monday against George E. Norcross III, the influential political powerbroker, along with Tambussi — Norcross’ personal attorney — and four others.

Platkin alleged that Norcross and others obtained property and property rights on the Camden waterfront while collecting millions of dollars in government-issued tax credits and influencing government officials in what the attorney general described as “political bloodsport” to further the scheme.

All six people named in the indictment were charged with first-degree racketeering. They face up to 10 to 20 years in state prison if convicted.

After the indictment was announced, Norcross accused Platkin of waging a political vendetta against him and his associates.
