Spinach brand recalled due to potential listeria contamination in New York, FDA says [Video]

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Raw spinach distributed by a company in New York state has been recalled due to potential contamination with listeria.

The recalled fresh spinach products were distributed by Solata Foods LLC of upstate Newburgh and sold in retail stores in New York, according to a posting on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration website.

The contamination was discovered after sampling was done by inspectors for the state Department of Agriculture and Market Food. Subsequent analysis by personnel in the food laboratory revealed the presence of L. monocytogenes in a 9-ounce package of Bogopa “Fresh Spinach.” Production of the product has been suspended.
