Watch Leo Varadkars resignation speech in full as Irish PM steps down | News [Video]

Watch Leo Varadkars resignation speech in full as the Irish taoiseach announced he is stepping down as prime minister and Fine Gael leader before Irelands next general election. In a press conference from the steps of government buildings on Wednesday, 20 March, Mr Varadkar said his time in office was the most fulfilling time of his life. His resignation is effective from today; he will step down when a successor is selected. Mr Varadkar led Fine Gael to a third-place finish in the 2020 general election. He led a coalition government with Fianna Fil and the Green Party; their agreement meant Michel Martin become taoiseach, with Mr Varadkar as Tnaiste (deputy prime minister) before the pair swapped two years later.

Just call it: Starmer challenges Sunak over general election | News [Video]

Sir Keir Starmer challenged Rishi Sunak to call a general election in a heated exchange during Prime Ministers Questions (PMQs) today (20 March). The Labour leader told the Commons: Violent prisoners released early because the Tories wrecked the criminal justice system, 3,500 small boats arrivals already this year because the Tories lost control of the borders, the NHS struggling to see people because the Tories broke it, millions paying more on their mortgages, a budget that hit pensioners, a 46 billion hole in his sums. Why is the prime minister so scared to call an election?

While reasonable people may disagree on what qualifies as insurrection or rebellion, this is absurd, writes guest columnist Raymond Ku, the John Homer Kapp Professor of Law at Case Western Reserve University School of Law.
