Biden and Trump to visit U.S.-Mexico border [Video]

President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump are set to visit the U.S.-Mexico border in Texas tomorrow.Biden plans to travel to Brownsville, while Trump will be in Eagle Pass. The trips come as Biden considers executive action to restrict asylum access for migrants at the U.S. southern border if they cross illegally. The latest: Political headlines from KOAT Action 7 NewsThe president’s critics are calling the visit a political stunt.”It’s definitely more of a political stunt than it is a policy solution-driven meeting at the southern border. Joe Biden has had three and a half years to visit the southern border. He’s only done it once,” Karoline Leavitt, Trump 2024 National Press Secretary, said. And that one visit was to El Paso last year after the city was facing an influx of migrants on their border. The president has repeatedly criticized congressional Republicans for failing to pass a bipartisan spending package that included concessions on border policy.”I think the most important thing to realize about what’s going on with border policy right now is that there are some leaders who want to solve the problem. And others simply want it as an election year issue,” Sen. Martin Heinrich of New Mexico said. Trump’s campaign is putting the blame back on Biden. “It wasn’t much of a border bill. There was a few billion dollars in there to secure the border, which actually would not have secured the border, it would have just helped facilitate the migration of illegal people into our country on the American taxpayers’ dime,” Leavitt said. Now, both are set to visit the southern border on Thursday to discuss immigration policy.Right now, the Biden administration bars asylum-seekers who cross through another country on their way to the southern U.S. border unless they have previously applied for and been denied asylum elsewhere or managed to receive an appointment at a port of entry.Follow us on social: Facebook | Twitter | Instagram | YouTubeTrump, if elected, plans to launch a mass deportation operation.”The operation will begin with those that are under parole right now by ice. Many of them have committed crimes in American cities and then are being released by Democrat-run officials in the cities and communities,” Leavitt said. “That is not what the American people want or need. They want solutions,” Henrich said. Earlier this month, Biden said he would be open to the idea of shutting down the border.Biden and Trump plan to meet with border patrol agents during their visits.
