Department of Homeland Security issues warnings about potential threats ahead of RNC [Video]

The Department of Homeland Security has issued a warning to law enforcement about potential security threats ahead of the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee and the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, according to a security bulletin obtained by ABC News. The report gives the first real insights into what threats Milwaukee could face when the convention starts in July.”We probably haven’t had anything like this, where you’re going to see this level of security,” said Brian Dorow, a former deputy assistant secretary for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. “There is zero room for error when it comes to protecting an event like this,” Dorow said.According to Dorow, that’s why DHS issued its bulletin five months ahead of the massive event. It warns law enforcement, “Threat actors may view (the RNC) as an opportunity to influence or disrupt the U.S. political process, using hostile or violent disruption tactics on a national media stage.”The Department of Homeland Security Office of Intelligence and Analysis breaks down the potential threats into four categories:Cyber threats, like an attack on communications infrastructure.Physical threats, like the use of explosives. Attacks on critical infrastructure, like 911 services. And foreign influence on the election itself. Dorow said an event of this scale will likely bring in some security threats that will be closely monitored by federal and local law enforcement. However, Dorow said attendees and spectators in downtown Milwaukee should not be scared, but should remain vigilant.”All I can say is, just like anything else, just always have good situational awareness. You know, if you see something that’s not supposed to be there. I know we repeat this on a regular basis, but really be a good witness,” Dorow said. This security warning is going out to law enforcement early so departments can start looking for potential threats now. The bulletin states that signs or indicators of any threats will likely show up before the RNC starts.
