AN AMERICAN electric vehicle company has recalled more than 10,000 vehicles over a safety issue.

Fisker Inc. recalled over 12,000 Ocean vehicles to fix a body problem.

Drivers experiencing a problem with the exterior door handle are being warned to return their vehicles, Reuters reported.

The manufacturer announced the recall on Friday.

The EV recall affects 8,204 vehicles in the United States.

That means 3,806 Fisker Ocean SUV owners in Europe and 513 in Canada are having to send their automobiles in, according to Mexico Business.

The serious safety issue can potentially cause drivers and their riders to become stuck inside a car, prompting the recall.

The US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration noted the risk of injury from such malfunctions.

This is what prompted Fisker to offer free replacements for affected parts.
