Town of Marion reports upward trend in sales tax revenue [Video]

MARION, Miss. (WTOK) – One Lauderdale County town is making strides when it comes to its sales tax revenue.

The Town of Marion had seen a decrease in its sales tax revenue due to the bridge on Dale Drive being replaced.

The bridge project took about 60 days to complete and during that time local businesses in that area took a hit in revenue.

Now Mayor Larry Gill said he is seeing a lot of improvement.

“We saw a decline in sales tax, we were not where we anticipated on being at that point in the budget year because of the bridge being closed, but since the bridge has opened, we’re seeing about a nearly 3% increase or a higher than we anticipated. 3% higher than we anticipated on being at this point in the budget year and we just want to take that opportunity to thank our citizens and …
