Tucson using technology to put brakes on street racing, takeovers [Video]

TUCSON, Ariz. (13 News) – The Tucson Police Department shared its list of ways to slow down street racing with the city council during a meeting on Thursday, April 25.

Chief Chad Kasmar explained how new equipment will be used and paid for.

Over the past six months, what started as an effort to stop street racing on the east side has become a city-wide effort to better monitor crime.

“We want to bring the best equipment that’s long-lasting and serves the needs of our community,” Kasmar said.

He was given an almost $1 million green light to spend on ways to crack down on street racing and takeovers. With the high risk to public safety, police are finding grants and other ways to fund resources.
