Utica Meeting with 2 Shelters About Stray Dogs | Local [Video]

UTICA, N.Y. — The City of Utica’s Ag and Market’s temporary certified dog kennel at UPD’s maintenance garage had its second inspection this week.

“They were cited for deficiencies. We’re going to rectify those, if we have to move forward,” said Mayor Mike Galime.

The mayor wrote to the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets about the failed inspection.

“Speaking to them exactly about what we’ve done so far and how we’re trying to resolve the situation,” said the mayor.

And on Monday, while grateful to UPD for stepping in, the City will pursue a more permanent solution by meeting with two shelters, Anita’s Stevens Swan Humane Society and Wanderer’s Rest, to try to hammer out a contract agreement for one or both to accept stray dogs from the City.
