Young heart transplant recipient lives out her baseball dreams [Video]

TOLEDO, Ohio (WTVG) – The first thing you notice about Emmalyn Rowan is her seemingly endless energy and joy.

The five-year-old is so full of light and happiness now, but her family says that it hasn’t always been easy for her.

Emmalyn was born with several congenital heart defects, had her first surgery at two-days-old and later a heart transplant in 2021.

“It was hard. It’s been a rollercoaster, ups and downs, backs and forths, turns, all of that,” said Nicole Rowan, Emmalyn’s mother. “But when you’re in that at that time, you don’t think about it, you find a way to survive it and fight through it just like she did.”

Nicole said now that the family has fought through the difficult times and the long hospital stays, they are focused on making new memories together.
