Two ThunderRidge High School athletes have been awarded scholarships and will play Division I cornhole for Winthrop University.

COLORADO, USA — For the first time in Colorado preps history, two athletes are headed Division I to play cornhole.

“I’m shocked, I mean, as everybody is,” said Gavin Hamann. “It’s crazy. It’s groundbreaking, it’s new, it’s making history.”

On National Signing Day, ThunderRidge High School students Jaxson Remmick and Gavin Hamann made history by becoming the first Division I 5-star cornhole recruits in the country.

“This is not just cornhole anymore. This is not just something you might see on ESPN, see pros playing. This is something that is now going to give kids an opportunity to get scholarships, potential full rides eventually,” said Winthrop University cornhole coach Dusty Thompson.

Winthrop, in Rock Hill, S.C., is the first Division I institution to do such a thing.
