MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC/Gray News) – Police in Tennessee are investigating a mass shooting at a block party that left at least two people dead and six others injured.

Police initially reported there were 16 total victims in the Saturday night shooting at Orange Mound Park in Memphis but later revised that number. A department social media post said further investigation revealed there were eight victims, two of whom were pronounced dead on scene.

Police say one person remains in critical condition at the hospital.

Memphis Police Chief Cerelyn Davis said the shooting took place at a block party attended by about 200 to 300 people. It’s believed there was no permit for the party.

Davis said at least two people were believed to have fired weapons during the shooting, according to the Associated Press.
