2 kayakers rescued near Skyway Bridge after boat flips [Video]

CLEARWATER, Fla. (WFLA) — Two kayakers were rescued after their boat flipped near the Sunshine Skyway Bridge on Saturday.

Marine rescue crews from Manatee and Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office alerted boat crews with the U.S. Coast Guard Station Cortez regarding the boats in distress at around 8 p.m.

The kayakers were rescued around 8:25 p.m. Crews said they were not injured.

“The proper use of life jackets and coordination between partner agencies aided the rescue of both people,” Lt. Casey Skomer, an operations unit controller at Sector St. Petersburg said. “All kayakers are reminded to have a life jacket, sound-making device, and a light if paddling at night.”
