25 new affordable apartments coming to downtown Windsor [Video]

In Windsor, a groundbreaking ceremony for a series of permanently affordable apartments was held Monday at 133 Main Street.The site is in the heart of the historic downtown and is getting a whole new look. Twenty-five new highly energy-efficient, apartments started construction. All the units will be ADA-accessible, with elevator access.“Part of it is that building in downtowns is a good strategy for vibrant villages,” said Elizabeth Bridgewater, the executive director of Windham & Windsor Housing Trust. “And this particular site had a big hole in the middle of the village because of the previous fire. And it’s been vacant for many, many years. We’re always looking for projects that are in communities where people can walk, communities that need revitalizing.”The agencies in charge of the new Central and Main Apartments are Windham & Windsor Housing Trust and Evernorth.
