Originally from Spain, Inigo Arroniz, a professor of business at Randolph-Macon College, says he often jokes about being the odd one out with his wife and children, who were born in the U.S.

“I’ve always been the oddball,” Arroniz said.

At Randolph-Macon on Monday, that changed for Arroniz as families, friends and officials cheered and waved American flags welcoming 55 new U.S. citizens. He and one other college employee were among the participants.

“It could have happened anywhere,” Arroniz said. “In fact, all of the interactions I’ve had with immigration have been in D.C. or the Norfolk area. So this is really special.”
