In an attempt to keep merger plans alive, grocery store chains Albertsons and Kroger are now planning to sell over 500 of their stores.

Kroger owns Fred Meyer and Albertsons owns Carrs, and the two companies want to become one.

Earlier this year, the Federal Trade Commission blocked the merger, saying the multi-billion-dollar deal would eliminate competition and increase prices for shoppers.
